Hall County Senator Lee Hawkins To Run For U.S. Congress In 2010

Gainesville – Before a sizeable gathering of more than 200 people in Gainesville, Hall County dentist and Senator Lee Hawkins officially launched his campaign to ensure conservative Republican leadership and values represent Georgia’s 9th Congressional District.

“I’m running because we need someone who truly understands that nationalized healthcare is a national nightmare,” said Hawkins. “I’ve been a dentist and healthcare professional for more than 30 years. If you want a Congressman who personally understands that nationalized healthcare will be a nightmare, I need your vote.

“And if you want a Congressman who will support the Fair Tax, I need your vote,” Hawkins added. We need to eliminate federal income taxes and replace that broken down system with a fairer tax system based on consumption. I endorsed the Fair Tax when I was in the Georgia Senate, and I’ll work for this major change in Congress.”

Lee Hawkins is a family dentist in Gainesville and has cared for thousands of patients during his years of practice. He is the former President of the Georgia Dental Association.

Hawkins is a lifetime resident of the 9th District and a graduate of the University of Georgia and Emory University. He and his wife, Sharon, live in Gainesville.

No incumbent will be running in the 9th Congressional District in 2010 since Congressman Nathan Deal has announced that he will run for Governor rather than for re-election. The district is based in northern Georgia.
